EKNA Monthly General Membership Meeting: Monday, April 21, 2008, beginning at 6:30 PM at the Philadelphia Brewing Company (Martha & Hagert Streets)

The 2008 Trenton Avenue Arts Festival will occur on May 17, 2008 from 12 noon to 5 PM. The 2008 Arts Fest promises to deliver more good times this year than ever before, see you there. (This is a sprinkle or shine event, severe weather date is planned for Sunday, May 18th, 12pm –5pm.)

This year’s festival will feature the 2nd Annual Kensington Kinetic Sculpture Derby (KKSD) a design competition and parade of human powered vehicle sculptures. Trenton Avenue Arts Festival
Date: Saturday, May 17, 2008
Time: 12 noon - 5 PM
Location: Trenton Avenue between E. Norris Street and Frankford Avenue at York Street Get the Map
Registration Deadline: April 30,2008 (Late fees will apply for registrations received after this date.)

Call for Artists and Food Vendors:
Artist Vendors: $50.00 per 10×10 space (Arts vendors will receive $20 back in TAAF cash to spend on art at the fest.)
Food Vendors: $75.00 per 10×10 space (Returning food vendors registration fee: $50)
Tables will be available for rent for an additional $15.00 a piece.
Vendor setup will occur between 9am - 11am.

Volunteers needed:
Showing, planning, playing, cooking, flyering, or building- there are plenty of ways to make your mark with the Fest. Let us know what your specialty is…we are looking for volunteers to help with several tasks.

TAAF organizers reserve the right to deny vendors if they are not arts-related, local non profits, or actively benefiting the neighborhood.

The EKNA Beautification Committee is organizing targeted community cleanups within the boundaries of East Kensington throughout 2008. The next cleanup will take place on Saturday, February 2, 2008 on the 1900 Block of York Street (between Jasper & Emerald Streets). This location has been selected due to the high volume of trash and its proximity to the York-Dauphin station. Help us clean up this gateway to our neighborhood. We will be gathering at 9:00 AM at 2064 E. York Street. The cleanup will begin at 10 AM. Refreshments and snacks will be provided for those who come early. Some cleaning equipment and supplies will be available including trash bags and brooms. Please bring gloves and any other supplies that you would like to use. The cleanup is weather permitting.

The meeting for the Trenton Ave Fest was held according to plan last night (December 11, 2007) at Kerry and Dave’s. In attendance were Dave Nelson, Kerry Nelson, Nykia Perez, Lara Coup, David Pendergrast, Jeff Carpineta.There was a lengthy and candid discussion. TAAF’s gracious meeting host, Kerry Nelson, has confirmed that the meeting will actually be held on Tuesday, 12/11/07, 6:30 p.m. at her place (2135 E. Susquehanna Ave., at Trenton Ave.).

Please come out to help plan another monumental installment in EKNA’s legacy of creative community development. Kerry has promised a fine selection of refreshments!

New Pages are going up everyday. Past two weeks has been focused on: getting up the Committee Info, the Bylaws, the interactive Map, the Calendar, Minutes, and new section to acknowledge EKNA supporters.  

We have had over 500 visits to the site, and a-lot of great feedback.

We are working on an community wide message forum and mailing list, and will let you know when the ekna.org address will be the one to take you here.

HELLO EKNA!!!  Please be patient, for I am no web-guru. I just saw the urgency and ran with it. That said, the text-copy and links are being uploaded and revised daily by yours truly.

It should be easy to navigate through the site, and now you DO NOT need an id or password to post a comment, or add to the calender etc.

Props to Nykia Perez who has agreed to join me for future copy editing, and to help manage the site in case of illness or glorious vacation.

and thanks to Dan Coella for stepping up- he has just agreed to help with future programming as we aspire to more sophisticated add-ons in 2008.
