The Beautification Committe

Started: Summer 07′ Chair: Jacelyn Blank Contact: eknabeauty@googlegroups.com

Participants: Jacelyn Blank, Nykia Perez, Richard Zurlnick, Jeff Carpineta, Leah Lample, Aaron Miller, Stanford Gable

This Committee was formed to address the following needs and concerns of residents that were identified as a priority by member surveys and meetings. Cleaning- Solutions for Excessive Trash, Grafitti, Neighborhood Clean-Ups, Tire Round Ups.Greening- Tree Planting, Garden Tending.

These are all huge topics to grapple with. So far, members of Beautification have assisted with clean-ups, tire round up, and there is a large tree planting effort underway**. There is discussion about residents ‘adopting’ a trash can on their street.

**The Philly Tree People** Members of EKNA Beauty- Jacelyn Blank and Nykia Perez, together with nearby Kens. resident Dina Richman- attended the Tree Tending training provided by the PA Horticultural Society. The training is one of the finest things our city has to offer. Participants learn the art and science of tree planting + care as needed for beauty and for our survival as a people. For more info about becoming a Tree Tender visit the PHS or better yet check out the Philly Tree People web site @ http://phillytreepeople.googlepages.com
